Steph Curry loves to send people to sleep.

And it’s certainly not because the NBA great is boring to watch on the court.

Curry’s trademark move has become iconicAP

In fact, it’s the opposite, as it’s Curry’s incredible ability under pressure that has led to him being able to trademark his now iconic celebration.

After hitting a crucial shot during a game, the Golden State Warriors superstar usually puts his hands together and places them on the side of his tilted head.

It indicates someone sleeping on a pillow and the celebration now has the name ‘Night Night’.

The world were able to see it in all its glory at the Paris Olympics as Team USA won gold in the basketball event.

That has taken its popularity to the next level but some may not know exactly what it means, so here’s a deeper look…

What does Curry’s celebration mean?

Curry’s celebration signifies that he has sent an opposing team to sleep or, in other words, guaranteed that they will lose the game.

He first did the celebration in 2022 as he led the Warriors to the NBA championship.

And ever since a game against the Denver Nuggets on that title-winning run two years ago, he has pulled out the move.

Speaking on the ManningCast to NFL greats Eli and Peyton Manning, he explained: “It started with some self-talk in the Denver series in the first round.

“It was Game 3 and I was talking to myself like: ‘We’ve got to finish it, we’ve got to put this to bed and put them to sleep.

“I made a lay-up and did it to myself and realised it was kind of a thing.

“And then people picked up on it and I had more opportunities down the stretch of the Playoffs to pull it out once we closed off a game or a series.

“To see it spread like wildfire around the world and sport is pretty dope.”

Curry does the celebration after hitting a potential game-winning shot, or a shot that puts the game out of reach for an opponent with time running out.

Those types of shots are commonly referred to in basketball as a ‘dagger’.

And it was the ‘Golden Dagger’ at the Paris Olympics that took the move’s fame up a notch.

Curry’s three-point shot in the final stages of the fourth quarter against France in the final secured Team USA the gold medal they had always wanted.

After that shot, he turned away to the crowd and did the ‘Night Night’ celebration, with pictures going instantly viral and going down in history.

In fact, that moment has led to Curry trademarking the French translation of the name.

Curry was reported to have filed trademark applications in the European Union and United States to protect the viral slogan ‘Nuit Nuit’.

There’s no doubt that he’ll be whipping out the celebration again this season.

The two-time MVP is entering his 16th year in the NBA and he’ll be aiming to bring some success back to the Warriors.
