Scottie Scheffler will be aiming to make more history in Florida this March as he eyes glory again at The Players.

The World No.1 took home the title during his incredible 2024 run, becoming the first golfer ever to win the PGA Tour’s Flagship event in back-to-back seasons.

Now, he’s eyeing a third straight crown to equal Jack Nicklaus’ all-time tally in this illustrious tournament.

There will be plenty of challengers for Scheffler though, with Rory McIlroy, Xander Schauffele and Collin Morikawa among the stars looking for victory.

The field will do battle at TPC Sawgrass which boasts the iconic island par-3 17th, one of the most famous holes in world golf.

The Players 2025: Field and tee times

The field for this year’s Players Championship will be 120 players before the cut after Friday’s second round.

This has been reduced from 144 after changes were made to some events on the PGA Tour to promote a better flow of play.

Scheffler will be the star of the field but McIlroy, who won The Players in 2019, will look to challenge again following his brilliant victory at Pebble Beach in early February.

World No.5 Hideki Matsuyama also already has one tournament win under his belt in 2025 and he’ll be keen to add another.

The full field will be confirmed closer to the event while tee times and groupings can be found here when announced.

The latest leaderboard from Florida can be found here once play is up and running.

The Players 2025: What has been said?

After winning back-to-back Players Championships, Scheffler said: “It’s good to be sitting back here again.

“It was another battle, it was a hard-fought week. A lot of guys played some really good golf this week. A few of them finished at -19, some at -20.

“That’s some really good golf on this course.”

He made history by becoming the first player to win two of these titles in a row and on that, he continued: “It’s pretty special.

“It’s something you don’t get the opportunity to do very often. It’s tough enough to win one.”
