Super Bowl LIX is almost here with the Kansas City Chiefs set to take on the Philadelphia Eagles on February 9.
Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs beat the Buffalo Bills last Sunday night to reach yet another NFL showpiece.
Meanwhile, the Eagles eased past the Washington Commanders to set up an exciting rematch of the 2023 finale.
Jalen Hurts will face Mahomes again, looking to get revenge after losing in the sport’s biggest game two years ago.
For the Chiefs though, they’re more than used to the Super Bowl, with this being a potentially historic night for them.
They’re looking to win a third straight Vince Lombardi Trophy after overcoming the San Francisco 49ers last year…
Who won the Super Bowl in 2024?
The 2024 Super Bowl saw the Kansas City Chiefs face the San Francisco 49ers in Las Vegas.
And it was the Chiefs who triumphed.
Mahomes and co won the showpiece match 25-22 in overtime.
They were losing 22-19 to the 49ers after the first play of overtime after Jake Moody kicked a 27-yard field goal.
But in their must-score play afterwards, Mahomes ran eight yards on the Chiefs’ fourth down before scrambling to the nine-yard line on the following play to set up a winning chance.
He then received the snap and took a couple of steps back before finding a wide-open Mecole Hardman to seal a dramatic win.
Confetti then rained down on the field to confirm that the Chiefs had just won their second straight Super Bowl.
Even before overtime, the drama was intense as the Chiefs rescued their title defence in the dying moments.
Their victory came despite being on the brink of defeat twice in the game, with the 49ers coming so close to glory.
San Francisco were 10-3 up at half-time and in the final stages, it seemed they were on their way to success.
However, after Mahomes moved the Chiefs into field-goal range, a last-gap kick levelled the score at 19-19 to send the game to overtime.
And then as mentioned, the 49ers ended up losing their lead at the death again thanks to Hardman’s touchdown.
The game was majorly highlighted by Taylor Swift‘s relationship with Travis Kelce and that helped make it the most-watched TV broadcast since the moon landings in 1969.
The couple embraced on the field after the Chiefs claimed the title and cameras surrounded them throughout the celebrations.
It was a special night for them, but it was a special night for Kansas City, of course, as they emulated the New England Patriots‘ achievement of back-to-back Super Bowl wins in 2003 and 2004.
On top of that, quarterback Mahomes became just the sixth QB in history to win three or more Super Bowls.
Speaking after making history, Mahomes said: “This game was a microcosm of our whole entire season.
“The defense kept us in there and the offense made plays when it counted. I’m proud of the guys, they kept believing.

Chiefs coach Andy Reid also made some history on the night, becoming the fifth coach ever to win three or more Super Bowls.
Reid said post-game: “There was no doubting it. The guys were great.
“The defense played out of their mind, and the offense just kept persevering, pushing and pushing. It was beautiful.”
The Chiefs will always remember that night in 2024 and there’s no doubt they’ll now want to make it three in a row.
So on February 9, they will be going all out for that three-peat.
