Caleb Williams’ slow start has led some to wonder if the Chicago Bears pulled the plug on Justin Fields too early.
At his electric best, the dual-threat quarterback was a nightmare for defenses.

But when gifted the No.1 overall pick by the Carolina Panthers, Chicago decided to pursue a potential generational talent in Williams.
Fields was traded to the Pittsburgh Steelers and was due to play as Russell Wilson‘s backup until injury gave him a shot at redemption.
He has led his new team to 3-1 – showing signs he could be a starting-caliber quarterback for years to come.
But with Wilson stepping up his return from injury, a fire is being lit under incumbent Fields with Mike Tomlin suggesting he would favor the hot hand.
Bears fans could be forgiven for hoping the man who brands himself Mr Unlimited takes their former star’s job.
But there is a huge reason why Chicago should be rooting for Fields – at least for a couple more months.
The Steelers traded a conditional sixth-round pick for their new weapon over the offseason.
Per NFL insider Adam Schefter, the compensation will become a fourth-round selection should Fields play in over 51% of the Steelers’ offensive snaps this season.
Having played four games already, two more months of Fields will give the Bears a significant boost in next year’s NFL Draft.
After that, the gloves can come off.

Fields was asked if he is feeling extra pressure with Wilson now breathing down his neck coming off the back of a first loss as a Steeler.
“No, not really,” he replied.
“I’m just going to keep doing what I’ve been doing.
“And whatever decision he [head coach Tomlin] makes, he makes.
“So I can only control what I do on the field. But no, I’m just going to go out there and keep doing what I’m doing.”
Wilson says his recovery is going well and he is in the mindset of being ready to play against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday.
“We’re definitely ramping it up. It’s been good. I feel great. And just getting better every day,” he said.
“I play a lot of football. I feel like we’re listening to the doctors, listening to the coach, and just trying to make sure that they’re good and I’m good and everything else.
“And just got a really good week of practice so far. I’m proud of the guys and how hard we’ve worked.
“I had a real good practice today. Our team did. And felt really confident today.
“You got to meet with the doctors and do some different stuff like that. But just I feel strong. I feel confident.
“I love the process that we’ve been in just in terms of just making sure that I’m fully ready and ready to go. I feel like I’m right there. I got an extra day tomorrow. And we still got Saturday and everything else.
“So that’s my mindset. Get ready for Sunday.”
Wilson thinks the team have started well, but insists there is plenty more to come.
“I’m excited about where we are,” he added.
“But we haven’t done anything yet. We’re still 3-1. But we feel like we could be 4-0.
“We also feel like there’s some things to clean up and we can get better as a team, as an offense.
“And I think for me, it’s doing whatever it takes to help us win and stay focused on just preparing and being ready to go when that time is right.”
