WWE has been snapping up its talent to new contracts at a rapid pace in recent months, and that only seems set to continue.

Under parent company TKO and spearheaded on screen by Head of Creative Paul ‘Triple H’ Levesque, WWE is enjoying a real boom period.

Its Premium Live Events both in the US – like a hugely successful WrestleMania XL – and across the globe, thanks to smash hits like Clash at the Castle in Scotland and Backlash France in Paris that featured rowdy crowds and shows that were generally very well received.

Business is chiefly good, of course, because of the performances of its top stars, with Roman Reigns dethroned at Mania in April after holding the company’s top male title for years, his successor Cody Rhodes also establishing himself as one of the industry’s most popular figures.

WWE’s roster is stacked with quality and experience and, as such, they appear to know they’re on to a good thing with many of their big names – Brit Drew McIntyre among the major hitters to ink fresh terms lately.

In a viral video posted on social media by WWE legend and TKO Director Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, McIntyre was gifted a stunning claymore – sword of Scottish origin – with heritage dating back to the eighteenth century.

In an accompanying note, the Hollywood actor said: “Man of my word. As you’re a man of yours – Congratulations Drew McIntyre on signing your new WWE deal.”

Other company mainstays have followed suit. Former UFC fighter turned WWE star Shayna Baszler, a close friend of Ronda Rousey, penned new terms earlier this month according to Fightful.

The US outlet also noted the renewal of former World Heavyweight Champion Damian Priest to a new deal, along with Natalya, Nikki Cross and Humberto Carrillo among others during 2024 alone.

Earlier this week, it was confirmed by WWE and NFL broadcaster Pat McAfee that legend Sheamus had extended his stay with the company, the Irishman adding on his own social media: “Here’s to many more years of getting paid for doing what I love most.. kicking fellas in the face & having banger after banger.. ANNND thanks to each ‘n’ every one of you beautiful legends.”

It appears the signing spree for WWE isn’t about to end there, with Fightful also reporting that fan favourite Kevin Owens has been ‘approached’ over signing a new contract.

The Canadian, respected as one of the most talented performers on the roster, had already racked up a stellar career and CV on the independent scene before first joining WWE via NXT a decade ago.

Levesque appears keen to extend that stay further, not least as it’s possible there may be admiring glances coming Owens’ way from elsewhere.

The outlet explains All Elite Wrestling have significant interest in the 40-year-old and would likely make a move to sign him in the event his WWE was left to run down.

“WWE is trying to get ahead up some upcoming contracts expiring,” said their report.

“WWE had approached a number of talent about re-signing ahead of their deals expiring. This method is a far cry from what we’ve seen throughout a good part of the year. In one case, Damian Priest’s deal was set to expire right around the time he renewed.

“Specifically, WWE source tells Fightful that Kevin Owens has been approached for a new contract.

“We’re told that Owens has not signed a new deal as of yet, but communication has been made.

“Those that we spoke to in AEW said that the company has long had major interest in bringing Owens in when and if he’s available.

“They’re expected to make him an offer if he reaches free agency.”

AEW, too, has its own stacked roster, including Brit Will Osprey, MJF, and a number of stars who’ve already performed in WWE in years gone by including Bryan Danielson (previously Daniel Bryan) and Chris Jericho.

Though the last few years has largely seen AEW sign wrestlers following the end of their stays with WWE, there has been traffic in the opposite direction, with Jade Cargill and Ethan Page among those to tread that path.
