Young Boys vs Inter predictions

After reaching the Champions League final in 2022/23, Inter were targeting another deep run in Europe’s elite competition last term.

Inter comfortably finished in the top two in their group with 12 points out of 18, although they were beaten to top spot by Real Sociedad.

That set up a potentially tricky last-16 tie with Atletico Madrid. Inter were easily the better team in the first leg at San Siro, yet having spurned a number of golden opportunities they needed a 79th-minute winner from Marko Arnautovic to run out 1-0 winners.

Federico Dimarco then gave Inter the lead in the return leg, but Atletico went on to win 2-1 to force extra time. There were no further goals at the Estadio Civitas Metropolitano, but it was the home team who emerged triumphant on penalties.

Inter, previously held up as potential dark horses to lift the trophy, were out of the Champions League before the quarter-finals.

Simone Inzaghi’s side are determined to do better this time around. Their initial objective is to finish in the top eight of the revamped league phase.

That sort of placing in the 36-team table would send them directly through to the round of 16, whereas those sides that finish between ninth and 24th must first contest the knockout phase play-offs.

Inter have made a good start to their continental campaign. A disciplined display saw them hold Manchester City to a goalless draw at the Etihad Stadium on matchday one, before the Italian champions demolished Red Star Belgrade 4-0 at the beginning of the month.

Next up is an eminently winnable game against Young Boys. Moving onto seven points would put Inter in a strong position as the midway point of the league phase approaches, although things may soon get tougher with games against Arsenal, RB Leipzig and Bayer Leverkusen on the horizon.

Inter won Serie A at a canter last season, but the early signs are that they will be pushed harder domestically this time around. Perhaps Inzaghi and co. are ready to focus on the Champions League again having come so close to glory in 2022/23.

Young Boys vs Inter betting tips

Inter are expected to get the better of Young Boys when the duo meet in the Champions League.

Inter to score in both halves

Young Boys battled past Galatasaray in the play-offs to earn a spot in the competition proper, but things have not gone to plan since then.

The Swiss outfit are rooted to the foot of the 36-team standings after defeats by Aston Villa (0-3) and Barcelona (0-5).

Even at this early stage of proceedings, it would take a huge effort for Young Boys to maintain their participation beyond the league phase.

What is more, the reigning Swiss champions have had a dismal start to their domestic season too. Instead of challenging for the title, there is a real chance that Young Boys could become embroiled in a relegation battle.

In other words, Young Boys have bigger fish to fry than the Champions League right now. That will play into Inter’s hands on Wednesday.

At least one goal either side of half-time should be easily achievable for Inzaghi’s charges given how comfortable it was for both Aston Villa and Barcelona in their meetings with Young Boys.

Over 1.5 goals first half

Inter have a crunch clash with Juventus coming up this weekend, so there is an incentive for them to get this game done and dusted as quickly as possible.

Given Juve are playing at home in the Champions League on Tuesday, they already have an advantage over Inter in terms of preparation for the Derby d’Italia.

Young Boys were 2-0 down to Aston Villa at half-time on matchday one, while they trailed Barcelona 3-0 at the interval last time out in Europe.

Inter should make a similarly fast start on Wednesday, although the good thing about this wager is that goals for either team count towards it.

Lautaro Martinez to score any time

A few seasons back, it looked like Lautaro Martinez would seal a move to one of the big boys in Spain or England.

In fact, the Argentina international is now in his seventh season at San Siro and he has shown no signs of wanting to move on any time soon.

That is fantastic news for Inter, whose fans were delighted when Martinez signed a new five-year deal in August.

The former Racing Club man is as important as ever for the Nerazzurri and we like his chances of finding the back of the net against Young Boys.
