Youngster John Paul Dembe and goalkeeper Mutwalibi Mugolofa have been named in Uganda Cranes squad that will face South Africa and Congo in the upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations Qualifiers.

Coach Paul Joseph Put summoned a squad of 27 players in a press conference held at FUFA Complex on Wednesday.

Dembe who plays for BK Haken had good performance at the AFCON U20 CECAFA Zonal Qualifiers, finishing as the top scorer with six goals.

For goalkeeper Mugolofa, he has had exceptional performance at KCCA FC, conceding just one goal in the seven games played.

Put explained that Mugolofa’s call is hinged on the forthcoming CHAN and wants him to train with the goalkeeping coach on the national team.

“We are aware that CHAN is around the corner and we have games against Burundi next month. So I needed to have him (Mugolofa) around the set up and also get training seasions with the goalkeeping coach. He has been performing well in the League and maybe next time we will summon another goalkeeper.” He said.

Uganda will take on South Africa at home (Mandela National Stadium) on 15th November 2024 before visiting Congo four days later.

Uganda tops Group K on 10 points, two ahead of South Africa while Congo and South Sudan have four and zero points respectively.
